The Dubai free trade zone for electronic commerce and information
technology-- dubbed the Dubai Internet City -- was officially established on February 5 2000 according to a Reuters report. Dubai's ruler, Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum issued a decree setting up the zone and establishing a free zone authority to manage the project. Crown Prince Shaikh Mohammad
will head the authority. The concept for the Dubai Internet City was
announced in October and aims for Dubai to become the regional center for
e-commerce and IT developments. Some planned features of the free zone:
Dubai government investing $200 million in developing the zone; 100% foreign ownership allowed for firms operating there; free zone leases up to 50 years available; zone imports and exports are customs exempt; and companies operating in the zone are exempt from taxes. Shaikh Mohammed said the free trade zone would be set up within one year

just my 2 cents
wohl bekomm's
