Learning Online
Types of Online Study
Along with other major educational institutions in Tasmania, the University uses Vista@UTAS as its centrally supported online course management and delivery tool.
Vista@UTAS is used in a variety of contexts within the University. Units may be:
* Web supported: Vista@UTAS is used to supplement face-to-face or distance education programs. Lecturers post to the Web material such as unit outlines, lecture notes/summaries and other support material and information and/or utilise Vista@UTAS's communications tools to facilitate interaction between staff and students. However, access on the part of students is not a requirement for successful completion of the unit.
* Web dependent: Vista@UTAS is used to complement the teaching of a unit. It is required for access to content and/or communications between staff and students. It thus integrates with the face-to-face or distance education components of study.
* Web based/fully online: Vista@UTAS is required for access to, and interaction with, content, communication between staff and students, and for aspects of assessment. There is no face-to-face component of study.
Online delivery is thus being used to support on-campus students at the site of course/unit delivery, on-campus students at campuses remote from the base where teaching staff largely operate, and off-campus students (in a small suite of distance education offerings).
